Letter of The Week

Each week we will have a letter/phonics lesson on Monday morning 9:15 in our classroom.  If we have a holiday on Monday, we will have our lesson on Tuesday morning at the same time.  If we have a short week of school, we will not have a letter that week as we will not have the time to develop the follow-up activities for the letter.

Assignment each week:

  • Help your child find pictures of items that begin with the letter of the week.
  • Glue the pictures on a piece of construction paper or copy paper.
  • Write the name of the word under the picture.  Be sure your child sees the word going down on the paper.  Sound out the word as you write the letters.
  • If your child would like to write the word, make a list of the words to copy.
  • As the year progresses, the children can begin to draw pictures of letter words.
  • Your child may bring in their letter page anytime during the week.  In fact it is better if we have a few each day.
  • The children read their pages to the class during our morning circle time.
  • The pages are displayed on our word wall all week so we can review the letter and sound.
  • I will e-mail and post on line the letter each week.  Also the letter of the week is always written in the banner at the bottom of each week on the calendar on our website.
  • Be sure your child writes their name on their paper.
