I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As the daughter of a career Army officer, I was raised throughout the East Coast, Europe and Central America. I consider myself very fortunate to have experienced such a variety of cultures.
Married to my high school sweetheart, we continued to travel as a young Air Force couple. Always having a passion for the fashion and cosmetic industry, I began working as an International Sales Representative and makeup artist for Estee Lauder. We moved to Austin in 1988, and decided to stay! Together we have two beautiful daughters, Mariel and Christina, both graduates of The University of Texas. Retired from the military, my husband is now with IBM. We are officially empty nesters as of this year, but have two grandchildren, Riley age 6, and Gavin age 5. They keep us busy!
I discovered St. Matthew’s in 1991, while looking for preschools for my youngest daughter. After a quick tour of the school, I enrolled her immediately! In 1994 I was honored to be asked to join the staff. Teaching from 1994 -2004, I started as an assistant in the 2 year old class, and then ultimately co-teaching on the 4 year old team. As a native Spanish speaker, a highlight while at St. Matthew’s, was developing and teaching the kinder-garden Spanish program.
I left St. Matthew’s in 2004, to pursue a unique business opportunity with a dear friend: a boutique that would donate 100% of the net profit to local charities in Austin, CUPIDZ CLOZET. This remarkable concept gave over three quarters of a million dollars to local Austin non-profits!.
Now almost 20 years after first enrolling my daughter in the St.
Matthew’s program, I find it serendipitous, to be working with Mrs. Cole, my daughter’s favorite childhood teacher! I am excited about the upcoming school year and proud to be a part of St. Matthew’s School once again.
